While there is some overlap between Shotcut’s filters and the ones you likely already have, there are quite a few novel ones. One very quick way to add ~100 OpenFX plugins to your toolset is by installing Shotcut, which is a free open source cross platform video editor that is buggy as heck but you’ll get a lot of new video filters to try out.Īs I use Davinci Resolve as my NLE, and as Shotcut crashes rather frequently, I would recommend using Shotcut mainly to process a single clip for reuse in your more robust and stable video application. One solution is to use OpenFX plugins, but that can put you at the mercy of dozens of poorly organized GitHub pages with next to nothing in the way of clear instructions for actually using them. Whereas in the audio world there are free and inexpensive plugins galore, the same cannot be said of video plugins. There comes a time when you feel you’ve exhausted the possibilities of the video filters in your nonlinear editor, but you don’t feel like spending a few thousand dollars on BorisFX bundles.
